I went to an professional event last night. As I listened to the attendees introduce themselves, the answers were as follows:
- I am an accountant
- I am an attorney
- I am a marketing professional
- I am in sales
- I am a financial advisor
- I am a [blank]
After attending thousands of events and meeting tens of thousands of professionals, I guarantee you that these answers represent >95% of all answers to the question, "what do you do?"
** In the United States as it relates to professional networking, these four words have the potential of changing your life. Really...No, really.
It is your opportunity to create a fantastic first impression, to whet someone's mental appetite, and to get them to say, "Wow! I need that."
So make mid-year's resolution...I promise to change the way I answer, "What Do You Do?"
